Drawing from nature is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to discover the plants and animals around you. There is crossover value for everyone: practice drawing from life; hone observation skills; deepen knowledge of the natural world. With simple sketching techniques we can develop our ability to really see the details of what is going on around us. Join artist, Sandy McDermott, on this midweek Introduction to Field Sketching at Cardigan Lodge. Participants will be introduced to several techniques for recording our observations in the natural world, the most important being observation.
Cardigan Lodge offers a perfect location to learn the basics of field sketching with forest, field, ponds and trails to explore. No drawing experience is necessary. The main objective is not to produce finished works necessarily, but rather, to create quick and colorful thumbnails and small studies that can then be used as reference for later paintings (for the artist), further natural history learning (for the naturalist) or simply for personal journaling.
