Picture this – you’ve packed your clothes, swimsuits, your child’s toys, food for every type of eater (if you’re renting a place with a kitchen), going out shoes, sandals for days by the pool, and of course, entertainment items like books and game systems. Your car is filled to the brim when you suddenly realize – oh no – I need gear to enjoy this vacation to the fullest!
Never fear! The White Mountains region and its businesses are well-versed in providing the highest quality options to suit every season’s needs. Read on to discover the best places to gear up for adventure.
DirtVentures
DirtVentures, brought to you by the professionals of SledVentures, allows you to acquire an E-bike or take an ATV tour. You can rent an E-Bike for the entire day for just $120 and local ATV tours start at just $100. Give your legs a rest from all the hiking we know you’ll be doing in our backyard and enjoy the breeze on one of these exciting vehicles.
Rodgers Ski & Sport
This flagship Rodgers Ski & Sport store is located in lovely Lincoln and while they’re primarily known for their snow-based rentals, it’s also a perfect place to rent a summer bike of the comfort, sport or downhill variety. Plus they service bikes daily if you need assistance getting fixed up and back on the trail or road. You can check out their full line of helmets and accessories while you’re there too.
Owl’s Nest
Do you feel like hitting the golf course? There’s no need to have your clubs with you! Owl’s Nest offers rental sets of Titleist and Callaway clubs for between $30 and $50, depending on the number of holes you plan to play. Reserving them is as simple as calling The Golf Shop at 603-726-3076 ext. 211.
Loon Mountain
Plenty of people are fans of wintertime at Loon, but there’s no need to clog up your trunk or roof rack! Loon has everything you could possibly need to ski and snowboard to your heart’s content.
But Loon isn’t just for skiing! You can enjoy exhilarating downhill, relaxing cross-country, or even exciting e-biking there. Rentals are very affordable and are available for every skill level and interest. Here are some of their suggested local rides in case you’re not quite sure where you want to go.
Out Back Kayak
Don’t be fooled by the word “kayak” in their name! Out Back Kayak also provides ATV and snowmobile tours, so they’ll be there for you in all seasons.
Cannon Mountain
If you choose to ski Cannon Mountain, the logical and excellent choice for renting is the Cannon’s Rental Shop! Beyond skis, poles, and snowboards they even rent boots and helmets. Needless to say, they’re well-equipped!
Village Ski and Sport
Like Loon and Cannon’s equipment shops, Village Ski and Sport offers all the things you’ll need to enjoy a mountain experience, but they also offer packages for snowboarders and they can help tune up your gear and custom-fit your boots too (if you choose not to rent).
Franconia Inn
Are you staying at the Franconia Inn? Great! Between the Cross-Country Ski Shop and the Bike Barn, you can get all your rentals for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and biking on-site.
RiverWalk Resort
RiverWalk is well-known for having pretty much anything you could desire on-site: a winery, a spa, swimming and hot tub options, multiple restaurants, an arcade, a workout room that faces the White Mountains, full in-suite kitchens…need we go on? But did you know they also offer ice skate and snowshoe rentals to guests? It’s true! And it makes sense because, in the winter, they transform their lagoon swimming pool into a stunning rink complete with a blazing fire caldron in the middle!
Echo Lake
Visiting Echo Lake never gets old. It’s a stunning 39-acre lake that’s perfect for swimming, boating, and more. And lucky you! You can rent a single-use kayak for $20 per hour, a tandem one for $25 per hour, and pedal boats for $30 per hour. We promise you it will be money well spent!
SledVentures
So you want to blast through the snow at warp speed? Grab a snowmobile for an affordable $200 rate through SledVentures. If you’re looking for assistance, they also offer guided experiences, should you want a little help discovering fresh paths.
