Echo Lake
Located at the base of Cannon Mountain with a spectacular view of Franconia Notch is Echo Lake. Upon entering the beach, visitors can enjoy swimming, paddle boat rentals, and more. Visitors can make a reservation before arriving at the park as parking is limited (especially on nice weekends and holidays). Walk-in spaces are available for visitors on a first come/first-serve basis. Reservations can be made up to 30 days prior to arrival. Reserve online.
Cascade Park
This park is located on the Pemi where it runs right next to Main Street in North Woodstock. It is where our annual Rubber Ducky Regatta is held and is a great place to lay out the rocks and wade into the waters.
The Pemi
The lifeblood of the area, the Pemigewasset River runs through the heart of the Western White Mountains. There are many spots to stop along the river and hop in for a quick dip. Staple Rock Park in Woodstock has picnic tables and lovely flat rocks along the shoreline. Locals and visitors alike also love the western branch of the river, especially around the South Peak area of Loon Mountain. Please bear in mind that currents are often stronger than they look and sometimes eddies do form, so always exercise caution.
Franconia Falls
If you’re up for a long, but beautiful flat walk down Lincoln Woods Trail, eventually you reach Franconia Falls. This is a popular swimming hole, with a few natural waterslides. Given its seclusion, it may be less busy on the hot, sunny days. This river can have a wild side, especially after rain, please use care swimming here.
Paddle Down the River
Prefer paddling over plunging? Head to Out Back Kayak, also in Lincoln, for a different kind of cool-down. Explore the Pemigewasset River on a guided kayak or ATV tour, or rent gear and create your own river adventure. It’s a scenic and serene way to enjoy the beauty of the mountains—plus a great workout disguised as fun. Don’t forget your waterproof camera for those peaceful water views to capture your memories!
