Old Man of the Mountain Historical Sites

There are two historical sites dedicated to the Old Man of the Mountain. Before succumbing to nature’s forces in 2003 and collapsing, a cliff resembling the profile of a man perched atop Cannon Cliff looked down over the Notch. Beloved to New Hampshirites, there now stands an interactive memorial that allows you to experience what the cliff looked like before collape. This exhibit is located in Profile Plaza, which is accessed by parking in Cannon’s Tramway Parking Lot and proceeding to the scenic path by the lake. Inside of the Tram Lodge visitors can browse the gift shop and learn more about the history of the Old Man of the Mountain.

A pull off on Interstate 93 North is also dedicated to the Old Man of the Mountain, at one time this was a popular spot to easily look up at the Old Man of the Mountain and lies along the Franconia Notch Bike Path. There is now an informative sign that details the collape of the cliff face.
