01.13.26- North Country Center for the Arts Announces Spectacular 40th Anniversary Season for 2026
North Country Center for the Arts Announces Spectacular 40th Anniversary Season for 2026
A year-long celebration of music, theatre, comedy, and community in the White Mountains
LINCOLN, NH — NCCA at Jean’s Playhouse proudly announces its 40th Anniversary Season, an ambitious and celebratory lineup of performances and special events spanning winter, spring, summer, and fall of 2026. Marking four decades of inspiring, educating, and creating magic in the White Mountains, the 2026 season honors the organization’s legacy while looking boldly toward the future.
The celebration begins in February with Year Two of CRANK THE HEAT: Winter Band Series, expanding on the overwhelming success of its inaugural season. This winter’s lineup features top-tier tribute bands, including The Great Escape (Journey Tribute Band) on February 7, Crazy On You (Heart Tribute Band) on February 14, and Wooden Horse (Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Tribute Band), returning by popular demand for two nights, February 20 and 21. The series concludes with Little Lies (Fleetwood Mac Tribute Band) on February 28.
Adding even more glamour and excitement to the winter season is the debut of the Fire & Ice Festival, accompanying Wooden Horse on February 20 and 21. This immersive experience will feature outdoor ice sculptures, dazzling and colorful lighting, ice bars and lounges, food offerings, and the unique ability to watch and hear the band both inside the theatre and outdoors via live projection. The Fire & Ice Festival promises to be the hottest event during the coldest time of year in the White Mountains.
The festivities continue into St. Patrick’s Day weekend, with the return of theJordan TW Trio performing Celtic music on March 14. The Playhouse then launches its first mainstage musical of the year with the bizarrely delightful BAT BOY: The Musical, running March 20–22. Based on the infamous National Enquirer story of a half-bat, half-boy, this cult-classic musical is the perfect weird and wonderful follow-up to last year’s Nunsense, marking only the second March musical in Playhouse history and presented as a limited engagement.
Spring brings the return of StageSetters, NCCA’s youth education program, with performances on May 8 and 9, showcasing talented Granite State children guided by the Playhouse’s professional staff. Laughter takes center stage on Memorial Day Weekend, May 23, with the kickoff of the North Country Comedy Series.
Summer arrives with a full slate of fan-favorite events and blockbuster productions. Comedian Juston McKinney returns for his annual Fourth of July comedy show, this year offering two performances on July 3 and July 4. IMPACT Fairytale Theatre opens on July 8, running Wednesday mornings through August 12, delighting audiences of all ages.
Mainstage musical theatre shines brightly as NCCA presents the smash hits Hairspray and Footloose, running in repertory from July 9 through August 22. Both high-energy productions feature young protagonists with a passion for dance and a determination to change their communities—and the world—for the better.
A highlight of the anniversary year will be the 40th Anniversary Gala on August 7, a special evening celebrating the extraordinary journey of the North Country Center for the Arts and the countless artists, patrons, and community members who have made its success possible.
The fall season ushers in the 5th Anniversary of GHOST LIGHT, the Playhouse’s acclaimed interactive haunted experience, running October 9–31. And the year concludes with cherished traditions, including A Christmas Carol: The Musical Ghost Story, December 11–20, followed by the final North Country Comedy Series on December 27, and the iconic Warren Miller Film on December 30.
With an unparalleled mix of concerts, theatre, comedy, education, and special events, the 2026 season stands as a testament to 40 years of artistic excellence and community impact.
“This is truly a very special year for NCCA,” said Executive Artistic Director Joel Mercier. “From the Papermill Theatre to Jean’s Playhouse, we have worked tirelessly to honor and expand the legacy of our company. Through both challenges and successes, we are incredibly proud of where we stand today and deeply excited about what the future holds in terms of growth and expansion.”
Mercier was recently joined by Development Manager John Moynihan, who is helping to strengthen community relationships, expand business partnerships, and further develop NCCA’s popular Encore Alliance Membership program, which offers meaningful benefits and rewards to patrons who commit to ongoing support.
Tickets for select winter, spring, and summer events are now on sale. For more information, tickets, and membership details, please visit www.jeansplayhouse.com.

05.22.25- NH Tourism Officials Projecting 4.6 Million Travelers to Visit This Summer
Concord – (May 22, 2025) – The Department of Business and Economic Affairs (BEA), Division of Travel and Tourism (DTTD) expects the forecast for visitation and spending for New Hampshire’s 2025 summer travel season to total just under 4.6 million, with visitor spending anticipated to come in slightly below $2.6 billion.
Governor Kelly Ayotte joined with officials from BEA, New Hampshire State Parks, and New Hampshire Fish & Game to unveil the summer forecast, preview the state’s seasonal marketing campaign, and officially launch Wildly Responsible, a new safety and sustainability initiative.
“We live in such a special state, and I am so excited to kick off the summer tourism season and welcome visitors from around the world to New Hampshire. From relaxing on the beaches, to hiking our beautiful mountains, to cruising our lakes, there is something for everyone here,” said Governor Ayotte. “Thank you to the BEA, our State Parks, and Fish and Game for promoting safe enjoyment of our natural beauty through their Wildly Responsible initiative. I look forward to showcasing all that we have to offer on our Super 603 Days this summer!”
According to DTTD’s research team, the summer outlook reflects a consistent year-over-year performance.
“We are confident that New Hampshire continues to be a popular destination, in large part due to the incredible product we offer,” said BEA Commissioner Taylor Caswell. “Our state tourism industry works hard to assure visitors get a world-class welcome and experience when they travel here.”
This summer’s campaign continues to build on New Hampshire’s creative platform – the feeling of Live Free – with messaging designed to inspire travelers to feel full of possibilities and free of expectations. The state will have a presence in its core markets of New England and eastern New York; road trip market of Eastern Pennsylvania; and Greater Montreal in Canada. The campaign launched in domestic road trip and Canadian markets in April, and in its core markets at the beginning of May. View samples of the summer creative here.
Launch of Wildly Responsible
In advance of the summer travel season, BEA officially introduced Wildly Responsible, a New Hampshire specific program that promotes respect for New Hampshire’s wild and natural resources, protecting our natural environment and resulting in a positive experience for everyone. The campaign highlights ways to help preserve natural resources, be safe and responsible while recreating, and ways to have fun while doing so.
“We’re excited to introduce Wildly Responsible as a way to inspire everyone to be mindful stewards of the places that make New Hampshire special,” said Commissioner Caswell. “This campaign underscores our commitment to balancing tourism with safety and environmental stewardship, ensuring that our state remains a pristine destination for years to come.”
“This year marks the 90th anniversary of N.H. State Parks being founded, and, as we like to say, ‘We’re in the memory-making business,’” said N.H. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources Commissioner Sarah L. Stewart. “One of the reasons our 94 properties are so popular generation after generation is that our visitors also take pride in them, and we know they’ll join us in being ‘Wildly Responsible’ when they visit so that those who come after them will also create picture-perfect memories.”
“While part of New Hampshire Fish and Game’s mission is to connect people with the outdoors, our priority is that everyone does so safely,” said NH Fish and Game Executive Director Stephanie L. Simek, Ph.D. “Wildly Responsible will be a great tool to help us speak with one voice and get important information to everyone who enjoys outdoor recreation in the state, and we are glad to be a part of this effort.”

02.26.25- NUNSENSE becomes first Winter Professional Show at NCCA!
The Heavenly Hilarious Little Sisters of Hoboken Come to Jean’s Playhouse!
Lincoln, NH – You haven’t truly experienced art until you’ve seen a gaggle of nuns dancing in a kickline! Get ready for a night of laughter, catchy tunes, and heartwarming fun as Nunsense, the uproarious musical comedy, hits the stage at Jean’s Playhouse for one weekend only, March 21–23. This laugh-out-loud show follows the hilarious antics of five quirky nuns who, in a desperate attempt to raise money for their convent, are putting on a variety show in the White Mountains of NH. As the sisters break into song and dance, their misadventures lead to an evening of pure comedic chaos that will leave the audience in stitches. With a blend of humor, charm, and feel-good moments, Nunsense promises to be a warm and cozy theatrical experience for audiences of all ages during the cold month of March in NH’s North Country.
This production marks a major milestone for the North Country Center for the Arts (NCCA) as its first-ever professional winter show. As part of its exciting new year-round model, NCCA is expanding its offerings to bring theatre, comedy, music, and more to the community beyond just the summer and fall. Following the success of February’s CRANK THE HEAT: Winter Band Series, Nunsense will take over the stage for a limited engagement in March. While this may not be the first time Nunsense has been performed by NCCA, it will be the first time a few of the nuns might have a 5 o’clock shadow!
“Years ago, Kim Barber, one of our beloved former Artistic Directors, donned the habit to play the incomparable Reverend Mother, Sister Mary Regina in one of the first productions of Nunsense NCCA ever produced,” says current Executive Artistic Director, Joel Mercier. “When we were discussing bringing Nunsense back as our first March production, that’s when the idea of making the role of Reverend Mother an ‘artistic director tradition’ came up.” Mercier, a member of the Actors Equity Association Union for Professional Actors, pondered the idea for a week or so and then agreed to take on the habit himself.
“I haven’t performed for NCCA since Cogsworth in Beauty and the Beast back in 2006, when we were at the old Papermill Theatre,” says Mercier. “Since I returned in 2017, my focus has been on behind-the-scenes work, so it’s been a few minutes since I’ve been under the spotlight. I suppose it’s like jumping back on a bike after about a decade!”
Joining Mercier are two familiar NCCA faces: John Marshall as Sister Robert Ann and Shelly Fawson as Sister Mary Amnesia. Marshall has played such memorable roles as the Emcee in Cabaret, the Baker in Into the Woods, Mrs. White in Clue: The Musical, and Nephew Fred in the annual production of A Christmas Carol. Fawson has portrayed Rosie in Mamma Mia!, Paulette in Legally Blonde, and the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella. The cast also features Scott Sweatt as Sister Mary Hubert and Olivia Martinson as Sister Mary Leo.
The production is directed and choreographed by Michael Stoddard, with music direction by Tommy Bergeron, scenic design by Andrew Stuart, lighting & sound design by Tyler Soucy of TS Events, and production stage managed by Victoria Marshall.
Nunsense will run at Jean’s Playhouse in Lincoln with performances on Friday, March 21 at 7:30 PM, Saturday, March 22 at 2:00 PM & 7:30 PM, and Sunday, March 23 at 2:00 PM. Nunsense is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals. For tickets and more information, visit www.jeansplayhouse.com or call 603-745-2141. Don’t miss this hilarious, heartwarming, and utterly entertaining show—get your tickets today and join the fun at NCCA Jean’s Playhouse!
