Indian Head Resort: A New Hampshire Classic

A Landmark Location

Indian Head Resort is impossible to miss as you drive into Franconia Notch on Route 3, featuring the unique charm of an on-site observation tower. Nestled away from the busier main streets, this year-round retreat offers a peaceful sanctuary. Conveniently located near major attractions, hiking trails, and ski areas, Indian Head provides the perfect White Mountain getaway.

The Complete Package

Located closest to Franconia Notch, Indian Head Resort is surrounded by stunning mountain scenery that’s breathtaking in every season. With so many activities available on-site—fishing, swimming, hiking, tennis, dining, and cozy accommodations—you may find little reason to venture elsewhere!

A Bit of History

Mount Pemigewasset towers over Indian Head Resort, its profile nicknamed ‘Indian Head’ because, from certain angles, it resembles a human face. The trees atop the mountain evoke the appearance of a traditional headdress, paying homage to the Indigenous Abenaki people who inhabited the White Mountains long before English settlers arrived. Indian Head Resort was established in 1913 by Ray Gordon, who transformed the former Guernsey family farm into Indian Head Estate. After offering lodging to stray hunters, Gordon realized the potential of providing accommodations and meals, which led to the evolution of the estate into a resort.

Weddings

Indian Head Resort is a favorite wedding venue for those who love the mountains and outdoors. Hold your service lakeside with a beautiful mountain backdrop, and then move inside to the reception hall after! Guests can choose to stay onsite. Check out wedding packages on their website!
