The Pemigewasset River is the lifeblood of the Lincoln/Woodstock area. The large east branch merges in and there are so many places along the river for walking, swimming, fishing, playing, having a picnic and more. Profile lake in Franconia Notch is the headwaters of The Pemi, Route 3 follows the river through Lincoln and into North Woodstock.

The East Branch of The Pemi is mainly drainage from the mountains to the east of Lincoln, Route 112, the main street of Lincoln also runs parallel to the river. Eventually the East Branch empties into the Pemi close to the intersection of Main Street in North Woodstock and Route 112. The are numerous parks and designated picnic areas along Route 3, include Fay Wayside Picnic Area and Cascade Park. On the Eastern Branch you can find the Riverwalk Trail running from the White Mountain Attraction Visitor’s Center to Loon Mountain’s South Peak. Across the bridge over the Pemi and into the parking lots for South Peak, you will find the JE Henry Trail and the Pemigewasset River Trail.

Along these trails there are plenty of places to get close to the water, fishing is popular on The Pemi. Even try your hand at fly fishing. Please be sure to follow all regulations set by Fish & Game and ensure that you have a current fishing license.
